Direct Hire, Contract…or Something In Between?

SLPs, Should you Hire Directly or Contract....or something in between?

The age old question-- or at least, the question for the last few decades.

Today I'm going to talk to you about the something in between. It can feel like taking a roll of the dice when hiring on directly with a district. Will they respect a balanced workload? Is the district culture supportive and welcoming and professional? Do they treat YOU like a professional?

As an SLP, I have worked with a number of districts across all of California. I have seen the great and the greatly needs improvement when it comes to school culture, benefits, and workloads. And, I know which schools will treat you with the respect of a skilled professional versus the catch all for SPED services.

And some of these districts, while they are great partners with my agency, are looking for permanent staff to support their district. If you, as an SLP, want
🔑 an environment where you're respected and where you won't get burnt out
🔑 the opportunity for student loan forgiveness of working for Title I Schools (for federal loan holders)
🔑 the extra retirement perks you get with districts

I can help you find that great district position, offer you an additional sign on bonus, and give you access to my company's resources (we have partnered with another SLP company that has a vault of lesson plans, email and IEP templates). This alone can save you hours of work per week. So, you'll get the best of both worlds- the direct hire benefits and extra support and perks. And, as an agency, I can support you in finding ESY work, per diem evaluations on occasion, and offer extra mentorship. And yes, as a staffing agency, the school districts do pay me a finder's fee, because they know that finding the right SLP is challenging but worth it. Do I get paid 50-75K like the recruiter who finds tech experts at Google. I don't. But with the commission that I do earn, I invest back into our field and into supporting SLP owned business, in advocating for our field, and into you.

If you're interested in working directly for a district but would like support in finding the right district, we have some openings in Fresno County and in Alameda County.
Or if you'd like to share a great district that you're already working for, so other SLPs can find them, do so below!
